TAKING CARE OF YOUR JEWELLERY

Jewellery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and damp conditions which can cause tarnishing and wearing of the plating.

Keeping jewellery in separate plastic air-tight bags will prevent any air or moisture getting in and will also stop pieces getting tangled or rubbing together.

Skin and hair products such as make-up and perfume react with precious metals and therefore should be applied before any jewellery is put on.

It is advisable not to wear your jewellery:

  • In the shower or bath

  • In the sea or swimming pool

  • In bed

  • At the gym

CLEANING YOUR JEWELLERY

After taking your jewellery off, gently rub it with a dry lint free polishing cloth to remove any dirt or cream residue.

You can use a special silver polishing cloth to remove oxidisation (discolouring) from the silver or a silver dip solution to really bring the sparkle back.

You can also clean silver and plated jewellery with warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush. Gently brush to get in to gaps to remove any dirt then rinse and dry thoroughly.

It is normal for plating to wear over time but if you follow the steps on this page you can keep your jewellery looking beautiful for longer. When the plating does eventually wear off you can get it re-plated and polished by contacting me for a quote.

Take extra care when cleaning jewellery with gemstones - it is always best to consult a jeweller if in doubt.
